Pendleton, IN (July 23, 2002) -- Another of the racing world's greatest names will join the ASA Racing Series illustrious list of competitors, as Adam Andretti is preparing to make his debut with the premier short track stock car series in the B FGoodrich Tires 300 at Madison International Speedway on July 27-28.
Adam, the younger brother of full-time Winston Cup competitor John Andretti and nephew of racing legend Mario Andretti, will be driving the number 42 Paha Que' Wilderness Inc./EVO America/Gunnar Bikes/Tent-Cot car. It will serve as a team entry to fu ll season number 2 car, driven by Chad Wood and owned by his father Jerry Wood of Madison (WI).
"Racing in the ASA Series has been a longtime goal of mine," said the 23-year old Adam Andretti. "For many years, ASA has run one of the finest series in all of motorsports. The opportunities provided for the teams and sponsors are first rate and I'm proud to become a part of this great series.
Andretti, a native of Indianapolis, has raced competitively since 1995 in various divisions including SKUSA Superkarts, US Formula 3, SCCA endurance races at Sebring and currently in the NASCAR Featherlite Series.
He is expected to compete in some additional events through the remainder of the 2002 ASA Racing Series schedule and a more expanded slate for 2003.
The BFGoodrich Tires 300 weekend begins on Saturday, July 27 (all times Central), with spectator gates opening and the first three practice sessions beginning at noon. ASA qualifying is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will be followed by limited late model qua lifying and a 50-lap limited late model feature race.
On Sunday, July 28, spectator gates open at 10 a.m. and the on-track autograph session is scheduled for 11. Pre-race ceremonies are slated for 12:15 p.m. with the drop of the green flag to start the BFGoodrich Tires 300 set for 1 p.m. The event will be tel ecast live on TNN The National Network.
