ASA revises 2003 slate to 17 events.

Pendleton (IN) January 14, 2003 -- Officials from the American Speed Association have announced a change with the 2003 ASA Racing Series schedule. The revised schedule represents three less races than the preliminary slate that was released to ASA teams at the National Awards Banquet in early November. The Series will see 17 events at 17 different tracks in 12 states through the course of the 2003 season.

Scheduled races for Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola (FL) on March 29, Memphis Motorsports Park on May 4 and Southern National Speedway in Kenly (NC) on May 31 have been removed from the tour. In addition the season's final event at Nashville will be held on Sunday, October 19 instead of the previously announced date of October 12.

Officials cited conflicts with television schedules as among the reasons for the alterations. They further emphasize that the ASA Racing Series driver's points fund will remain the same despite the three fewer events.

In all three instances there will remain ASA Racing Series events in the respective states. The season opener is on March 22 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland (FL), with scheduled appearances for both North Carolina at Concord Motorsport Park on Ap ril 19 and in Tennessee at the Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville for the season finale on October 19.

Speed Channel will carry the entire 2003 schedule with 16 events set for live coverage and the Sunday, August 24 race at Lake Erie Speedway to be telecast on a same-day three-hour tape-delay basis.
