Brazilian V8 Stock Cars: Valdeno Brito and Thiago Camilo master their paces to take victories

Fastest track of the season highlighted several fights for positions, some spins and remarkable wins for both pole-sitter Valdeno Brito and the "millionaire" Thiago Camilo.

At the fastest track of the season, Brazilian V8 Stock Cars flew through the 3.058-km circuit in a sunny Cascavel this Sunday afternoon for the eighth round of the 2015 season. Victories were shared by Valdeno Brito and Thiago Camilo: both won for the second time this season. Marcos Gomes took two sixth places and opened a 31-point lead gap over Cacá Bueno, who finished P5 on both heats.

For Valdeno and Shell Racing, a dream weekend. The team made a 1-2 finish in race one with Ricardo Zonta coming second over Allam Khodair. In the 10-place reversed grid, Diego Nunes started ahead but made a mistake on lap eight. Thiago Camilo, who started second after Átila Abreu had not managed to take off for the formation lap, was right behind the leader and took the opportunity to score another win. Brito made a bet on a more aggressive driving and followed the Ipiranga-RCM driver to finish second. Ricardo Maurício was third.

Valdeno Brito’s record

The double-header format of Brazilian V8 Stock Cars saw a new record with Valdeno Brito’s accomplishment: he is the only driver to score P1 and P2 the same weekend - and take 37 points home. No one before him had scored so many points in the same event, only two points less than the maximum available in a weekend.

"It is the first time it happens in Stock Car, and I only have to take my hat off to the team. They gave me a perfect car that allowed me to do such thing and score so many points. It was more than we had imagined", said Brito, who clinched also the pole position and set the fastest lap of the first race.

As for Thiago Camilo, a good sequence after his horrible crash in Curitiba two rounds ago. Then on, the fifth-placed driver in the standings won the ‘Million Reais Race’ and lifted the trophy at the top of the podium in Cascavel, a track where he hadn’t had the best performances so far.

"Stock Car is an extremely competitive racing series. To win two races in a row shows that we are in a good moment. That win in Goiânia after the crash in Curitiba gave us a great amount of strength and we are really motivated", he told.

The ninth round of Brazilian V8 Stock Car Championship will be held in Campo Grande, in the center of Brazil, on September 13th.
