Brazilian Stock Cars: Marcos Gomes and Valdeno Brito take wins in Santa Cruz do Sul

In southern Brazil during the winter, the heat went up on the track: two wild races with lots of overtaking and Cacá Bueno re-taking the championship lead.

Santa Cruz do Sul staged the fifth round of Brazilian Stock Car Championship this Sunday afternoon with two good races. After four second places this season, Marcos Gomes finally got grips with victory. The Voxx driver started second and overtook polesitter Valdeno Brito and managed his pace to win for the first time this season. Allam Khodair, with a risky pit stop strategy, came second, right in front of his team mate Rubens Barrichello.

"For some little details we didn’t win until now, even though we had the fastest car on track. Today everything went fine. Valdeno had an issue with the back of his car and I put my car next to him on the breaking point for turn one - and he was quite a gentleman. We’d got a great pace and the team gave me a perfect car", said Gomes.

Race 2

Starting from pole and finishing eight, Valdeno Brito wasn’t pleased at all, specially with a loose rear floor since lap one. With a 10-place reversed grid, the Shell driver started from third place - Daniel Serra was the poleman and finished second after his teammate Cacá Bueno tried to defend his position against Max Wilson. Serra, then, passed by the two of them. Brito, even with the loose floor of his car, held the attacks of Cacá Bueno through the race and won for the first time this season - his last win was last year, exactly in Santa Cruz do Sul.

"I only had two push-to-pass and my car was disintegrating. I never thought I could have won this race, because I had no grip on the rear end of the car. I’m truly amazed", said Brito.

Cacá Bueno again on the leading position

The results put Cacá Bueno again on the leading position in the standings, since Julio Campos had problems on both races - plus, he went down to fourth behind Rubens Barrichello and Marcos Gomes. "Mission accomplished. We wanted to finish the weekend as the championship leaders. We did what was planned. Of course I’d like to have won, but we did what we had to do", said Cacá Bueno.
