Brazilian V8 Stock Cars: Marcos Gomes starts ahead
Free Practice 1 went on under mixed conditions; reigning champion took advantage to set the fastest lap of the day
Curitiba hosts Brazilian V8 Stock Cars’ 450th race this weekend. The ninth round kicked off this Friday with Free Practice 1, in which Marcos Gomes was the fastest driver on track. Reigning champion, the Cimed driver set a lap on 1min19s185 while in the first half of drivers who went to the track.
Then, a light rain came to the circuit to mix the conditions in a way that Gomes’ lap time could not be beaten. Red Bull’s Daniel Serra was second 0s125 away from the lead, with Thiago Camilo third. Valdeno Brito and Julio Campos closed the top-5.
Championship leader Felipe Fraga was tenth, while Rubens Barrichello, second on the standings, was 17th. This Saturday, the 500-hp cars storm through the 3.696-km circuit for FP2 at 8:20 am and Qualifying takes place at 12 pm (local times).
