Wright carries hot streak into O'Reilly ASCS weekend at Yellville & West Plains.

TULSA, Okla. (July 22, 2003) - Gary Wright is among the nation's hottest drivers entering this weekend's O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour events presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers at Yellville's North Central Arkansas Speedway on Friday night and West Plains (MO) Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Wright enters this weekend's action having topped six of the last eight events on the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour. Wright has posted ten feature wins through the series first 26 events of 2003.

Since missing the May 9 event in Oklahoma City, Wright has been playing catch-up in the points race. With Wright's recent hot streak, the Hooks, TX, hotshoe has closed the gap on the lead trio of Darren Stewart, Travis Rilat and Zach Chappell. Wright is currently ranked fourth in points, just 56 markers out of the lead.

Hailing from Bixby, OK, Darren Stewart not only leads the series' Brodix Rookie of the Year chase, but leads the overall points race as well, having notched three feature wins along the way and finishing in the top ten in 23 of 26 events.

Travis Rilat of Forney, TX, also with three victories, is a close second in points, just 38 points behind Stewart. 2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, is just 16 more points back in third. With two wins this season, Chappell is just two points ahead of Wright in the tightly bunched points race.

Seventeen year-old Cody Branchcomb of Sapulpa, OK, last year's ASCS Brodix Rookie of the Year, has been a consistent top finisher and is currently ranked fifth. Other top drivers expected to be in action Friday night include Shane Stewart, Tim Crawley, Toby Brown, Rick Behr and A.G. Rains among others.
