23 November, 2002 - Since signing with Helm Motorsports last week for the 2003 World of Outlaws Series Jeff Shepard has a new lease on life beginning to focus on achieving his dream in 2003.
Growing up watching Sprintcar racing throughout America Shepard has always dreamed of one day finishing on top of the World of Outlaws points standings.
Shepard is looking to improve on his finish in his first full season of World of Outlaws competition Shepard won the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year award finishing 10th overall in 2001.
"In my first year I don't think I realized what I was actually doing, how I was actually chasing and living my dream of not only racing but beating the Outlaws," said Shepard.
"Since then I have matured as a racer and understand that the series is not won on one show alone. It is a whole Championship.
"A year away from the Outlaws has made me think how much I really want to be successful in the Outlaws and I'm going to do what it takes to be a winner."
Prior to next years World of Outlaws Shepard will chase a dream "down under" where he will compete in 12 nights of racing over a 5 week period throughout late December and January with Disbury Family Racing.
"Last year I had an absolute blast down there and I am looking forward to going back for more racing and hopefully more winning," Shepard commented.
"From what I gather we are doing more travelling than what we did last year which will be great to compete in the high profile $50,000 to win show and also return to have another shot at the Classic.
"That Classic is like Australia's version of the Nationals, the whole of Australia seems like they are there. We led the Final for over half the race last year, the team deserved to win and I want to take the team back there, hopefully this time stand in victory lane.
"But I don't think I could handle the party if we did win considering last year's performance when broke. Those guys know how to have a good time while they are racing and prepare a fast race car at the same time."
Immediately after his Australian tour Shepard will fill the gap before the start of the World of Outlaws season by competing in the Florida Speedweek and Winternationals with the Imperial Packaging supported Ashworth team who he drove for this year to win the most amount of features in the All Stars Series.
Keep your eyes out for Shepard as he "Chases his dream" in 2003 which will begin a few days early on December 26 when he will make his debut for the season on Australian shores.
