Barnstorming drive by Johnson

On a track that other competitors openly labelled a one lane racetrack, American Sensation made two and sometimes three wide passes on route to a sensational second placed finish in tonight's Freightmaster Sprintcar Stampede at the historic Wayville Showgrounds.

Following his two heat races 27-year-old Johnson was the highest point scorer and was therefore placed at the back of the grid and he put on a display of passing manoeuvres, sometimes going where no man feared to tread.

On several occasions throughout the non-stop 15-lap journey Johnson had the Aussiefast Transport/STP machine literally inches from the concrete wall and his competitors on his charge from 11th to second.

"It would have been great to have a caution or a yellow as I reckon I could have caught the leader who started on the front row," commented Johnson "but hey that was a lot of fun out there tonight."

Craig Vanderstelt took the victory.

The Freightmaster Sprintcar Stampede was held in conjunction with the Clean Team Speedway International event that was taken out by 7-time Australian Champion, Leigh Adams.

Johnson was at times left speechless by the solo and sidecar action around the 530-metre venue. In America the sight of two and three-wheeled action is almost unheard of and Johnson had several conversations with Adam's throughout the evening concerning the difference in the two disciplines of motorcycle and Sprintcar speedway racing. Detailed on the right is a quote from one of the conversations throughout the evening.

The team will now focus their aim to elevate their way up the point score in the World Series Sprintcar Championship when it continues next Saturday night in Adelaide.

Quotes from Jason Johnson's evening On arrival at Wayville "This is kinda like home in the size of the track I think I will run about here (pointing to a spot inches from the concrete wall)."

Discussion between Adams and Johnson Adams "That's some seat you've got in there, don't you get claustrophobic in there?" Johnson "It's a hell of a lot safer than the seat you've got" They both could do nothing but laugh.

Following the Feature race Team Owner Darren Disbury "At one stage, actually a couple of stages when you went three wide I didn't think there was enough room." Johnson "I had that feeling at one time going down the back straight but that's part of it," Disbury "That was a good drive fella, good job."
