KNOXVILLE, IOWA (June 9, 2003) - Drivers from the ultra-competitive WISSOTA Promoters Association are gearing up for this year's fifth Brodix Tournament of Champions, August 10, at the Knoxville Raceway. This week, entries for the $4,000-to-win invitational for drivers of winged 360-cubic-inch sprint cars have been received from Loren Langerud of Harwood, N.D., Chuck Swenson of Watertown, S.D., and Dave Becker of Belle Plaine, Minn. Last year, Swenson finished 13th and Langerud scored 18th in the 30-car finale on the Sunday before the Knoxville Nationals. This year, a record fifteen sanctions will send representatives to the historic Marion County Fairgrounds oval, all competing under one common set of rules utilizing the Brodix ASCS spec head.
Becker has entered his wife Cindy's Eagle/S&S sprinter, while Swenson will be in the KnC Conversions-owned Maxim/Weseman machine. Langerud will wheel the John Byron/Loren Langerud J&J/Ostrich sprint car, which is backed by Buffalo Wild Wings, Miller Lite, and Papa Murphy's Pizza. Recent entries have also been received by top-flight drivers Danny Jennings of the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Sooner Region and Jesse Giannetto of the host Knoxville Raceway. Jennings is currently third in Sooner Region points, while Giannetto leads the Knoxville 360 c.i. point standings.
Drivers must enter the Brodix ToC and have competed in a minimum of sixty-percent of their sanction's events by August 1st in order to even be eligible to compete at Knoxville. A maximum of ten invitations will then be issued from each affiliate's point standings, in order, from the point leader on down. The fifteen participating sanctions are: American Outlaw Action Series (AOAS), American Sprint Car Series (ASCS), ASCS-Gulf South, ASCS-Rocky Mountain, ASCS-Sooner, Empire Super Sprints (ESS), Eagle Sprint Touring Series (ESTS), Knoxville Raceway (KNOX), Montana Sprint Tour (MST), Northern Sprint Tour (NST), Sprint Invaders Association (SIA), Sprints On Dirt (SOD), United Racing Club (URC), WISSOTA Promoters Association (WISSOTA), and Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW).
