Mechanicsburg, PA, July 21 - Tonight's double header of 410 and 358 sprint car action was cancelled by rain that just did not know when enough was enough.

After getting in two heats for the 358s and three for the 410s, ominous black clouds covered the speedway. The third 358 heat was lined up. Before it could get under way, the heavens opened. Opened in a nicely staged manner: first enough moisture to bring out the red, then enough to convince everyone to seek shelter, then (after all the fans were under the stands) a downpour.

After the cloudburst stopped, the track crew went to work with grader, sheepsfoot roller, and push trucks. An hour of intense effort brought the track back to racing condition. The 358 heat was fired and pushed off. Lined up behind the pace car. Then....

A light drizzle. Then enough rain to bring out the red.

At 10:50 pm, the race was called. Because neither division had its field set, the event was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Rain checks will be honored at face value toward any remaining event at the Grove this season.
