JEFF SHEPARD AND CRAIG VON DOHREN SCORE $3000 VICTORIES AT WILLIAMS GROVE

MECHANICSBURG, PA-- Jeff Shepard won the 25-lap sprint car feature and Craig von Dohren copped the 25-lap sportsman/modified main event Sunday afternoon at Williams Grove Speedway.

Don Kreitz moved from his third place starting position into the lead at the start of the sprint feature. Billy Pauch, who started on the pole, charged back into the lead on the backstretch and set the pace through the first eight laps.

Todd Shaffer drove by Kreitz on the second tour and took the lead on lap nine. Shepard, who started fourth, charged between Pauch and a lapped car entering the first corner on the eleventh circuit. Four laps later Shepard drove by Shaffer and never looked back.

Driving the CAT Construction/York Excavating #4J Shepard earned $3000 for his fifth career victory at Williams Grove.

Shaffer settled for runnerup honors and Pauch finished third. Keith Kauffman and Kreitz completed the top five.

Lance Dewease finished sixth ahead of Ed Lynch, Jr., who started 14th. Fred Rahmer was fighting for a top five finish when he hit the fence on the 22nd lap, but held on to claim 8th. Len Thompson and Johnny Mackison completed the top ten.

Heats for the 39 sprint cars were won by Tim Shaffer, Rahmer, Kreitz and Dewease. George Suprick and Thompson won the consolation races.

Von Dohren started third in the sportsman/modified feature and took the lead when pole sitter Kenny Brightbill's car pushed entering the first turn. Brightbill was all over the leader for the remainder of the race, but von Dohren prevailed for the $3000 victory. Kevin Hartnett, Duane Howard and Rick Schaffer completed the top five. Heats for the 41 sportsman/modifieds were won by Howard, Tom Mayberry, Scott Davis and Schaffer.

Carmen Infante and Ray Swinehart won the consolation races.

Williams Grove will be back in action this Sunday afternoon, March 22 when the limited sprints join the sprint cars.
