TULSA, Okla. (September 12, 2005) -- Defending series champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, leads a strong contingent of expected entries into this Saturday night's O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores annual stop at West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO.
Now just four events from reeling in his second ASCS National championship, Wright posted his 11th feature triumph of the season and 101st of his career Friday night at Memphis Motorsports Park. Even after an early exit from Saturday night's main event at Riverside Speedway in West Memphis, AR, Wright still enters Saturday's card at West Plains Motor Speedway with a 214-point cushion over Darren Stewart.
Stewart, the 22-year-old 13th Annual COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek champion, enters Saturday's event in search of his fourth victory of the season after previous triumphs at Memphis Motorsports Park (4/22), Riverside Speedway (6/4), and Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway (6/24).
Twenty-one-year-old Tony Bruce, Jr., of Liberal, KS, enters the West Plains event ranked third in points and atop the Brodix Rookie of the Year rankings. Hot on Bruce's heels is 19-year-old Sam Hafertepe, Jr., of Sunnyvale, TX, just 72 more points back in fourth.
Hailing from Carthage, MO, ASCS "Ironman" Toby Brown, the only driver in ASCS history to compete in more than 200 consecutive events, enters the night ranked fifth in points. Just 66 point behind Brown in sixth is 20-year-old Rookie of the Year contender Jake Martens of Fairview, OK.
Other top ASCS National Tour contenders expected for the night include Oklahoma City's Jimmy Taylor, 2001 National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, Rookie of the Year contender Lee Sowell of Nesbit, MS, and Nick Smith of Broken Arrow, OK.
Also expected are three-time ASCS National champion Tim Crawley of Mabelvale, AR, and Tim Montgomery of Fredericktown, MO. Crawley topped the 2002 and 2003 ASCS stops at West Plains, with Montgomery acing last year's event.
Also joining Saturday night's card will be a number of Winged Outlaw Warriors representatives, including series point leader Randy Martin of California, MO. Other top WOW shoes include defending champ Terry Hinck, Rex Combs, Frank Brown, Rusty Potter, Tony Crank, Mike Trent and Jon Corbin.
Approximately 35 entries are expected for Saturday's event at West Plains Motor Speedway.
