Jason Shultz proved that the glass smooth but slick surface of the Winchester Speedway was no problem for him as he took the lead at half way and went on to win the Virginia Sprint Series feature at Winchester Speedway Saturday night. The race track showed its hand early as the drivers struggled in the heat races getting grip causing spins in both events. The pits were very busy as everyone made the changes they thought would be the right ones as the night rolled on.
Mike Sayers Jr. and Jerald Harris paced the feature and as the green waved Sayers took the lead and the chase was on as he was trying to build a lead but the pack was on the way. Sayers was found the bottom groove to his liking as behind him closing in was Tom Howe Jason Shultz Bill Rice and French Grimes.
At half way the field tightened up after a quick spin and now Shultz was up to second and pressing Sayers it took a couple laps but Shultz passed for the lead and now battle for second was on as five cars were racing for the spot and on the last three laps it changed often but coming down to the flag it was Shultz for the win followed by French Grimes,Mike Sayers jr., Bill Rice, Tom Howe Dick Stevens, Buddy Parker, Wayne Jones, Jerald Harris, Dan Harman, Charlie Kingrea, Tim Hamlet, Pete Kingrea, Gary Snow, George Johnston, Jimmy Hiner and Scott Murrell.
The two heat wins went to Dick Stevens and Bill Rice.
The evening was capped off by series sponsor Sue Walter of CB's Corner Store Deli giving awards to the feature race top three finishers.
The VSS next Saturday July 15th visits Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro Virginia.
