Jason Shultz was able to turn the tables on Tom Howe who won the last time the VSS visited the Saluda oval and showed the rest of the field as well as he stormed to the front and stayed there even as the rest pressured but could not wrestle away the top spot. The night started with Dick Stevens and Mike Sayers Jr. as the heat race winners.
Dick Stevens and Charlie Kingrea were the front row starters and Stevens took off with Kingrea following in second the rest of the field sorting everything out,Stevens was racing away as Gerald Harris,Jason Shultz,Tom Howe and Tim Hamlet were on the way. Shultz was able to run down Stevens and shoot into the lead at lap ten and the others were on the way as well with now Howe going into second and chasing Shultz leaving Stevens to race with Harris, Hamlet and Johnson.
After a caution for Bill Rice who had a brake linesnap was pushed off the track the top ten were all together with no traffic giving Howe and the rest another shot with five to go. Shultz took off with Howe,Harris and Hamlet all having good chances but it was not to be as Shultz held on for the win with Howe and Harris filling the top three followed by Tim Hamlet, John Johnson, Dick Stevens, French Grimes, Wayne Jones, Charlie Kingrea, Pete Kingrea, John Thomas, John Wheaton, Buddy Parker, Jimmy Hiner, Bill Rice, Bo Riener and Mike Sayers Jr.
Next week the VSS makes its first visit of the year to Potomac Speedway on Friday night July 28th.
