FAYETTEVILLE, GA - The defending and three-time United Sprint Car Series Champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN had to battle back from an early race spin Saturday night to remain on top of the USCS National point standings. Gray recovered from the spin at Senoia Speedway in Senoia, GA to finish fourth.
Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL won the race, and closed to within six points of Gray. Gray was running fourth on lap 14 when he spun in oil laid down on the track by the third-place car of Joe Rebman of Mansfield, OH. Gray restarted in the ninth spot, and came back in the 40-lap event to finish fourth, and stay in front of Adams in the points chase.
Gray and Adams are the only two drivers that have competed in all ten USCS held this season, with six on dirt and four on asphalt. Gray has two wins, and eight top five finishes. Adams leads the series in victories with five wins to go along with seven top five finishes, eight top ten finishes, and four poles.
Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL turned in a fifth-place finish on Saturday night in Senoia, GA to remain third in the USCS National points. For the season, Martin has competed in nine events with four top fives, and seven top tens.
The leading USCS Rookie of the Year candidate is R.J. Johnson of Wesley Chapel, FL, who is fourth in points. Johnson finished tenth in Senoia, GA on Saturday night, his second top ten finish in nine USCS starts this season.
Brice Wrenn of Lexington, SC is running a dirt-only schedule in 2004, but remains in the fifth spot with two top fives, and four top tens in six starts. Wrenn was third in National points before the last three events of the season, which were run on asphalt.
Bill Moore of Denver, NC finished sixth on Saturday night in Senoia, GA to vault him up to sixth in the USCS National point standings. In six starts this season, Moore has four top ten finishes in six starts this season.
A pair of dirt-only USCS competitors, Tom Winegardner Jr. of Pierson, FL and Red Stauffer of Winter Park, FL, are seventh and eighth respectively in USCS National points. Each driver has six starts with two top ten finishes.
Butch Pendergrass of Winston-Salem, NC is ninth in USCS National points. In six starts, Pendergrass has two top ten finishes. Ben Basinger of Salisbury, NC also has six starts this season, and is tenth in USCS National points.
USCS returns to the dirt with an Outlaw Thunder event at Lancaster Motor Speedway in Lancaster, SC this Saturday night. The Lancaster Motor Speedway event will carry USCS National, Outlaw Thunder Dirt, and Sunbelt Tour points.
