KEVIN SWINDELL SCORES BIG WIN AT CONCORD
Kevin Swindell enjoyed victory lane once again Saturday night with a flag-to-flag victory in the USCS Asphalt Thunder Series at Concord Motorsports Park. After setting a new track record on the ½ mile speedway, Swindell led every lap and was never challenged the entire distance despite several caution flags which bunched the field together.
"We came in to Concord without ever seeing the track and the car was really good," explained Kevin. "The track was a lot of fun to drive because of its shape. We only got a few laps of practice before we went into qualifying. I drew the first pill to go out so I wanted to set the mark for everyone else. On my second lap, the tires came in and we were able to set a new track record."
Following up a second place finish in the heat, Kevin led the field down to the green in the feature event and set a very quick pace, lapping cars after only a few revolutions. While it seemed traffic was going to play a part in the outcome of the race, Swindell was able to maneuver his #1 Wirtgen America, York Excavating Co., Maxim through groups of lap cars and stretch his lead to as much as a straightaway throughout the event. At the checkered, he held that margin to win by more than 5 seconds over second place.
In victory lane, Kevin was obviously pleased with his performance. "The traffic was tough; guys were running side by side. I was in the middle of four cars and the one in front of me had his top wing break. It got pretty exciting for a second, but I was able to get through."
"Our car was just so good; I could pull out and go around traffic on the outside then get back to the bottom and run some really fast laps. Sponsors, Les and Lynda Stewart, were here tonight to watch and I want to thank them for their help with our car. Special thanks to Wirtgen, Stu Murray, and my dad. I couldn't do this without them," Swindell stated.
Kevin returns to the World of Outlaws next weekend with his first visit to the famed Eldora Speedway on April 8 & 9.
