ADAMS HOLDS THREE-POINT LEAD OVER GRAY IN O'REILLY CAROLINA THUNDER TOUR POINTS
FAYETTEVILLE, GA - Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL holds a three-point lead over Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN after the first three rounds of the O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series Carolina Thunder Tour, which have shown impressive car-counts. Adams won the season opener for the O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder Tour on April 15 at Riverside Speedway in Travelers Rest, SC,
The "Malabar Missile" has followed that up with a third-place finish at I-20 Speedway in Batesburg, SC on April 16, and the 2000 O'Reilly USCS National Champion finished second at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA last Saturday night.
Adams won the O'Reilly USCS Sunbelt Tour championship last season, which has evolved into the O'Reilly Carolina Thunder Tour for 2005.
Gray is another driver that has posted three top five finishes in the first three O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder events. The "Bartlett Bullet" took the win last Saturday night at Oglethorpe Speedway Park to go with a third-place finish at Riverside Speedway, and the defending and four-time O'Reilly USCS National Champion finished fifth at I-20 Speedway.
Steve Osborne of Cupertino, CA holds down the third spot in the O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder Tour points with one top five finish, and three top ten efforts. Osborne was the Huggins Cams Hard Charger of the Race at OSP coming from the 16th starting spot to finish fourth. Osborne is ten points behind Gray.
Johnny Bridges of Cherryville, NC is fourth in points, also with one top five and three top ten finishes. Bridges trails Osborne by five points. Bridges was the 2003 American Outlaw Action Series Champion. O'Reilly USCS President and Founder Pete Walton bought the AOAS in 2004, and it became the Sunbelt Tour last season, and the Carolina Thunder Tour this season.
"World Wide" Paul Sides of Memphis, TN is fifth in points with a pair of top five finishes. Sides, who began the season racing in Australia, is five points behind Bridges. The next three drivers in the O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder Tour points chase are SpeedMart Young Guns, which represents driver under the age of 25.
Last year's O'Reilly USCS National Championship Runner-Up 19-year-old Danny "The Hammer" Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL is in the sixth spot, one point behind Sides. Two SpeedMart Young Guns are tied for the seventh spot.
In seventh, 12 points behind Martin, are 17-year-old Stephen Darvalics of Venice, FL, who is also the leading Rookie of the Year candidate, and the 2004 O'Reilly USCS Rookie of the Year 18-year-old R.J. Johnson of Decatur, TN.
Brice Wrenn of Lexington, SC holds down the ninth spot, two points behind Darvalics and Johnson, and O'Reilly USCS Rookie of the Year candidate Bruce Cline of Apex, NC rounds out the top ten in O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder Tour points, two points behind Wrenn.
A total of 40 points separate the top ten in the O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder point standings, which has averaged over 25 cars in its first three events. There have been 38 different cars that have competed in the three O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder Tour races.
