O'REILLY USCS CAROLINA THUNDER CHAMPIONSHIP RACE THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT I-20 SPEEDWAY IN BATESBURG, SC
FAYETTEVILLE, GA - The O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series will present round 42 of the 2005 season with the $3,000-to-win Carolina Thunder Tour Championship Race for the winged outlaw sprint cars this Friday and Saturday night. The O'Reilly USCS competitors will also compete in the $1,000-to-win Koolbeans Trophy Dash Finals.
Friday night's action will have the O'Reilly USCS 1,300 pound, 700 horsepower machines competing in time trials to set a new all-time track record at I-20 Speedway, and to set the starting line-ups for the heat race. The heat races will be run on Friday, and the top finishing drivers will transfer to Saturday night's A-main event.
There will also be a ten-car, ten-lap Semi-Final event to round out the ten-car starting field for the Koolbeans Trophy Dash Final. The top five point drivers in the Koolbeans Trophy Dash standings are locked into the Saturday night event.
After the O'Reilly USCS heat races, the series and I-20 Speedway will host a Pit Party Cookout. Along with the O'Reilly USCS preliminary events, the I-20 Speedway Open-Wheel Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Super Stocks, Hobby Cars, and Stock 4s will also run qualifying events on Friday night.
On Friday night, the gates open at 5 p.m., with hot laps set for 7 p.m., and racing is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Saturday night's racing action will begin with the six-lap Air Flow Research Power Dash. Next up will be the Koolbeans Trophy Dash Final. Drivers not transferring to the main event from the Friday night heat races will have a final opportunity to get in the big show through the B-Main.
Before the cars are pushed off for the O'Reilly USCS A-Main, the drivers will meet and greet the race fans during a special autograph session. The I-20 Speedway divisions will also return on Saturday night for their respective feature races. The gates open at 4 p.m. on Saturday night, with hot laps at 6:30 p.m., and racing action set for 7:30 p.m.
Top O'Reilly USCS competitors expected include veterans Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL, Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN, Johnny Bridges of Cherryville, NC, Chad Allum of Kannapolis, NC, and Brice Wrenn of Lexington, SC.
Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL will lead a group of drivers under the age of 20 called the SpeedMart Young Guns. Joining Martin in the Young Guns Club will be top rookie driver Bryn Gohn of Malabar, FL, Matt Tiffany of Daytona Beach, FL, R.J. Johnson of Decatur, TN, and Josh Harris of Denton, NC.
Also expected are top Carolina Thunder Tour rookie driver Bruce Cline of Apex, NC, Bronzie Lawson of Southern Pines, NC, Dustin Apple of Elon, NC, and the father-son team of Tom Winegardner Sr. and Jr. of Pierson, FL.
