David "Skeeter" Kelly "Stings" The USA Sprints @ Hendry County Speedway!
On a cool and breezy Spring Nite in Clewiston Florida there was plenty of buzzin goin on in the Pits as "One Bad Skeeter" David "Skeeter" Kelly from Zephrhills Florida in the # 12 Staggs Tree Service/Kelly Trucking Gambler was flexing his "Wings" and once again let it be known that he still has what it takes to take a "bite" out of the USA Sprints competition. This was Davids first Win of 2004 and made 6 different Winners out of 8 races so far in the Southern Thunder Tour and his first ever at the 1/4 mile Hednry County Speedway.
Kelly went from the pole after winning his heat race and was flanked by 2nd heat race winner Mike "Hollywood" Schroeder. The 2 drivers led the pack down into turn 1 after flagman Don Vanacker waived the green. The Track had been very dusty and loose in the heats so the decision was made to water down the surface to keep the dust to a minimum.during intermission.Schroeder had no chance entering turn 1 as the cars frieght-trained the # 6 all the way back to 9th by the lap 5.The scuffle for positions 2nd,3rd and 4th between "Tiny" Tim George,Andy "Hammerdown" Kelly and Bruce "Rocketman" Durden from Jacksonville became very intense as the Track came around very nice about 10 laps into the race. The 3 drivers battled back and forth most all of the race in what turned out to be the best racin because Skeeter was steadily pulling away and asserting himself from the rest of the pack.
Bob "Thunderfoot" Schaeffer in the Dan Barth owned Budweiser # 22 was running his own race all by himself a 1/4 lap back in 5th but never made a serious threat at the front.Mike Schroeder # 6 came back after a bad start to claim 6th followed by Sean "Zippy" Namor's # 10n who ran a great race in his heat to finish 2nd and brought home a very respectable 7th in the Feature.Sean showed he too will become another threat to win any given nite out as well.RC Roper "The Racin Cowboy" # 92 struggled with a sour motor and came home 8th after starting in the back.He was chased home by Mikey "The Kid" Davis's # 3 in 9th and and Scott Rocchio in the # 16 rounding out the top 10.
Bruce "Rocketman" Durden # 17 brought home the KSE Hard Charger award.Over $1,000.00 in contingencies was given away to the top 10 drivers from Brakeman, Crowe Racing, Design 500 Racewear, Kreitz Racing Supply, KSE Racing Products, Leaf Racewear, Racer Bolt, Rod-End Supply, Super Shox and Ultrashield Racing. The next USA Sprints Southern Thunder Tour Race will be at Thundercross Motorsports Park on June 12th.Racing will start at 7pm.There are still 4 or 5 top drivers who are looking for thier first Win of 2004 including John Cicota,Bruce Durden and Shane Kreidler. So mark down on your calenders to visit the Okeechobee speedplant as it anyones guess who will wind up in Victory Lane. You can also visit the website for more information and news @ www.usasprints.com
