NEW EGYPT, NJ - Greg Coverdale of Milford, DE was the best of a thirty-nine car field of URC sprint cars on Saturday night at the New Egypt, Speedway. For Coverdale, it was his sixth win of the season and thirty-seventh career victory with the United Racing Club. Coverdale took the lead on laps five of the twenty-five lap URC Bar's Leaks feature event, then ran virtually uncontested to the victory. Four URC heat events were presented with victories going to Billy Pauch, Greg Coverdale, Dave Gable and Sean Michael as Todd Rittenhouse and Todd Wise won the consolations. In the twenty-five lap URC feature, the caution flag was displayed before the completion of the first lap for Sean Michael who made hard contact with the first turn wall. Michael, the current URC point leader was not injured in the accident. On the restart, Dave Gable was the pace setter followed by Ray Staats and Greg Coverdale. The caution flag was again displayed on lap two, this time for Kyle Jones. At the same time, Billy Pauch went to the pits with a flat tire. On the restart, Fred Kennedy took a slow roll in turn four after a tangle with another car. Gable set the pace on lap four and just one circuit later, Greg Coverdale was on the point, followed by Gable, Jon Eldreth, Brian Seidel and Scott Pursell. Although Coverdale retained solid control of the lead, runner-up Dave Gable managed to the leader in sight. At the halfway point, the front runners were now in lapped traffic. Coverdale, Gable, Eldreth and Jeremy Trout were racing for the lead in a tight group, with numerous slower cars making the action very interesting. Eldreth, racing on the low side of the speedway, moved into second on lap fifteen and began to reel in the leader. The final caution of the event was for Midge Miller who had a flat tire on lap twenty. The restart saw Coverdale get away first with Gable passing Eldreth for second. Gable actually appeared to be gaining on Coverdale as Seidel was making a move to take over third place with Eldreth fourth. Coverdale flashed under the checker flag to score the win with Dave Gable second and Brian Seidel third. On the final lap, Jeremy Trout took fourth spot with Jon Eldreth fifth. Jimmy Stitzel who won the URC feature the night before, had a difficult night. After qualifying in his heat race, Stitzel along with Fran Hogue, failed to go to the scale for weigh-in. Both cars were disqualified and had to run the consolation. Stitzel missed qualifying by one spot in the consolation as Fran Hogue and team car Tim Hogue, elected not to compete the balance of the night. In the feature event, a two spot penalty was imposed on Dave McGough, who hit the restart cone on lap twenty. The penalty moved McGough eleventh in the final finish. Two more visits to New Egypt Speedway remain on the URC BAR'S Leaks Sprint Series and they are set for Saturday, September 18 and Saturday October 2.
