GREG COVERDALE TOPS THIRTY-FIVE CAR URC FIELD SATURDAY NIGHT AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

NEW EGYPT, NJ - Greg Coverdale of Milford, DE took the lead from Jon Eldreth , just six laps from the finish to win the twenty-five lap URC BAR's Leaks Sprint Series feature event at the New Egypt Speedway last Saturday night. For Coverdale, it was his third URC win of the season and thirty-fourth career victory. URC car counts continue to be strong with thirty-five URC sprints taking part in the thirteenth event for the United Racing Club in 1999.

URC qualifying events were won by Jimmy Martin, Brian Seidel and Chris Coyle as Fran Hogue won the seventeen car consolation event.

In the twenty-five lap URC sprint feature, Jon Eldreth set the early pace with Scott Pursell and Glen Clarke hot in the chase. Dave Gable moved to fourth on lap five with Brian Brittingham rounding out the top five.

A slick track slowed the charge of point leader Sean Michael, but by the halfway mark, Greg Coverdale was fourth with Michael in fifth and closing on the front runners.

On lap nineteen, Greg Coverdale used the inside groove to take the lead from Eldreth as Michael was closing fast in third. With just two laps remaining, the leaders approached slower traffic, Michael passed Eldreth and set his sights on the leader. Dave McGough, who darted into the top five from nowhere, was now third and also closing quickly on Michael.

On the final lap, the gap between the top three had disappeared. With the checker flag waiving, Coverdale took the win followed by Sean Michael, an outstanding ride for Dave McGough in third, Jon Eldreth fourth and Scott Pursell fifth.
