Minersville, PA - May 23, 2003 - The URC Advance Auto Parts Sprint Series sponsored by BAR's Leaks will invade the Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, PA this Friday night, May 30. The competitors of URC are eager to return to the Big Diamond Raceway, after two rainouts in the 2002 season, it has been over a year since the sprint cars of URC have turned a wheel at Big Diamond.
The URC Sprints will be joined on the card that starts at 8 PM by Big Diamond's NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds and Roadrunners. The program will be part of the rescheduled United Disabilities Services (UDS) Night, rain-delayed from May 16
Kevin Welsh is the current top gun of URC, leading the season long point series as well as the Fred's Trailer Repair New Jersey State Series and the Valley Forge INC Pennsylvania Sprint Series. When URC invades Big Diamond Raceway on Friday night, May 30, Kevin Welsh of Far Hills, NJ will be on a mission. Although Welsh has set his goal to win the URC Title, he also wants to win a lot of races as the season progresses. Welsh has one win this season and a career total of three URC feature wins.
The Big Diamond Raceway is a three-eighth mile clay oval speedway that offers plenty of racing room complimented by a little wheel banging when the URC sprinters touch the well prepared speedway. This facility offers high-speed racing action like you've never seen.
Although Kevin Welsh is the current URC "hot shoe", he'll have plenty of challengers including two time feature winner Dave Ely of West Lawn, PA. Other drivers on the URC 2003 win list are Trevor Lewis, Randy West and ESS driver Dan Kaszubinski. Defending URC Champion Bill Brian Jr. of Ephrata, PA is off to a slow start. Brian is winless so far this season and with six events competed, he'll be looking to win races and move into the top ten in the season long point chase. Brian owns then career URC wins.
Other talent in the chase include Dave McGough of Sassamansville, PA, Brian Seidel, Allentown, PA, Trevor Lewis, Curt Michael, Scott Pursell, Jon Eldreth and Chris Coyle to name just a few.
Two-time Daytona ARCA winner and former Big Diamond Modified feature winner, Bobby Gerhart of Lebanon, PA will also be on hand at Big Diamond for United Disabilities Services Night to sign autographs and his #5 Bodycoat ARCA Pontiac will be on display to kickoff his effort to assist UDS with marketing and fundraising with their Track the Laps program in association with the ARCA RE/MAX Giant Food Stores 200 at Pocono Raceway on June 7, 2003.
United Disabilities Services New Life Assistance Dogs Program will also be featured and race fans will be treated to a personal service dog demonstration. New Life Assistance Dogs (NLAD) is one of UDS's 12 programs and services that help to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. NLAD trains service dogs to assist people with disabilities. Information about the various services that Advance the Independence of People with Disabilities will also be available.
