Mark Shorb grabs thundercar feature; Robert Stough gets street stock win

HANOVER, PA, 5/21/04 -- Neal Amspacher was nearly perfect in the Hoosier Tires 358 sprint car feature race, Friday night at Trail-Way Speedway. The only mistake Amspacher happened to make was shutting his car off too quickly before driving into victory lane. With the help of Trail-Way's officials, Amspacher was pushed into victory lane and celebrated his first win ever in his 358 racing career.

"I saw them out of the corner of my eye," commented Amspacher, referring to Jon Keller, Brad McClelland, Billy Dietrich, and Mike Bittinger who all put the pressure on the leader, contending for the top spot. "There's tough racing here every weekend," Amspacher went on to commend the field on their competitiveness.

"It's a nice racetrack tonight. It's a nice racetrack every week!" Amspacher's #29T maneuvered around the 1/3 mile clay oval track in fine fashion, clearly showing his ability to run on a very smooth track. The recent rain worked to Amspacher's favor.

Amspacher dedicated his first victory to his late uncle who was fatally injured while working on a sprint car.

Dietrich, Keller, Bittinger, and 2003 track champion McClelland fought close to Amspacher, rubbing the entire way around, looking for an opening that would improve their chances of a victory. Keller came up short of the victory finishing in second followed by Dietrich in third, McClelland in fourth and Bittinger completing the top five.

Dan Richcreek, Scott Tate, Danny Dietrich, Rick Horn and Bob Howard rounded out the top ten.

Jeff Rohrbaugh and Bittinger were heat winners.

With rain quickly coming, Trail-Way kept the program moving quickly. In a fast pace thundercar feature race, Mark Shorb picked up his first win of the 2004 season. This win also gave him his seventh career win at Trail-Way Speedway. Shorb was pressures by the 2003 track champion Craig Wagaman. Wagaman's car continuously put the pressure on the #22 machine sponsored by Barry Shorb.

Wagaman completed the night second followed by Jerry Bingaman, Gary Potts and Mike Walls completing the top five. Bryan Wagaman, Randy Zechman, Sam Gallagher, Robert Bopst, and Marshall McMullen completed the top ten.

Heat winners were Shorb and Potts.

In street stock action, Robert Stough picked up his first win of the 2004 season. Stough stole the lead away from Danny Beard who led a large portion of the race. Ken Aiosa led the first two laps but fell a few spaces back after being passed by Danny Beard

Several cars were involved in a first lap caution, seeing several cars retiring the night early.

Danny Beard followed Stough across the line finishing second. Ted Forsythe, Ken Aiosa and Todd Miller completed the top five.
