Bryan Wagman wins thundercar feature; Doug King wins fifth street stock feature

HANOVER, PA, 10/3/03 -- "I learned one thing tonight... the car's gotta be right, and anyone can drive it," said an elated Brad McClelland who captured the win in the 30-lap, Trone Outdoor Advertising and Predator Racecraft sponsored 30-lap 358 Fall Championship.

McClelland, who started sixth, took his B&D Truck Hoist machine to the lead on the 16th lap. Scott Tate, who held the lead for the first 15 laps of the feature, battled with Mike Bittinger for the second position for several laps. Bittinger prevailed sending Tate back to as far as seventh, where he finished.

Tonight's win for McClelland was his fourth sprint car win in a row. Last weekend McClelland dominated sprint car racing at Trail-Way Speedway both Friday and Saturday night's. McClelland picked up the 358 win on Friday night, along with a win in the 250 feature race on Saturday night. McClelland, who started at Trail-Way in the 250cc micro sprint series admitted to being startled by the speed difference between the 358 sprints and the 250 micros. Obviously, McClelland who was last year's (2002) 250 sprint car champion, remembered the right moves, in hopes of achieving a win in the 14th Annual Kevin Gobrecht Memorial race which starts at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday October 4th.

Following McClelland across the line were Bittinger, Judd Shepherd, TJ Stutts and Scott Ausherman.

Heat winners for the 25 358 sprints in attendance were won by Mike Bittinger, Scott Tate and Brian Allman.

Abbottstown's Bryan Wagaman raced his way into victory lane for the third time this year in the 20-lap thundercar feature race. Wagaman passed race leader Mark Shorb on the seventh lap, send Shorb back to a third place finish.

Wagman who has had an up and down year dominated tonight, showing he still has what it takes to be a winner in the thundercar series. Wagaman confirmed that he would be racing at Trail-Way in the 2004 season, hopefully looking for many more wins in the future.

Following Wagaman across the line were Neil Smith, Mark Shorb, heat winner Randy Zechman and Michael Gladfelter.

The 2003 street stock track champion, Doug King picked up his fifth win of the 2003 season. King led all 15 laps of the feature race. Completing the top five were Robert Stough, Ted Forsythe, Chris Holston and Danny Beard.

Heat winners for the street stocks were King, Stough, and Josh Wildasin.

Some of the highlights of the month will be tomorrow's 14th Annual Kevin Gobrecht Memorial for the 600cc and 250cc micros on Saturday, October 4th. That show carries a rain date of Sunday, October 5th.

The 3rd Annual Blue-Gray Classic for 4-cylinder stock cars will be run over two dates Saturday and Sunday, October 11th and 12th. The 4-cylinders will run in preliminary events on Saturday (10/11) and the 75-lap classic on Sunday (10/12). They will be joined by the 4- and 6-cylinder scramble cars on Saturday night and figure 8 cars and junk cars competing in a demolition on Sunday. Rain dates for those shows are October 18th and 19th, respectively.
