Scotia, NY - The 2000 Woodard's Concrete Products/Central New York Mini Sprint (CNYMS) Tour returned to Thunder Mountain Speedway Saturday, August 12, for the second meeting of Thunder Mountain mini sprint regulars and CNYMS regulars. The result was the same this time around. Thunder Mountain's Don Harvey (Milford, NY) proved again that he knows his way around the Center Lisle oval. He topped 24 other feature race drivers, making him the first repeat winner on the 2000 tour.
Bobby Scaccio (Suffern, NY) started on the pole for the feature, with tour points leader Phil Peworchik, Jr. (Binghamton NY) alongside. After two early race cautions, Steve Boyd (Hazleton PA) took the lead, and Harvey was already up to fourth. Lance O'Dell (Oneonta, NY) battled Boyd for the lead until a caution flew for Rick Christopher (McDonough, NY) who spun in turn two. As the caution came out, O'Dell, running in second, brought out the red flag as he flipped between turns one and two. He was unhurt, but his car was unable to continue. When the green flag flew lap eleven, leader Boyd's car had mechanical problems and he was unable to fire his ride. After a successful push start, he was relegated to the back of the pack for the restart, putting Harvey into the lead. Harvey never looked back for the remainder of the 20 lap feature. James Brush (Newfoundland, PA) powered from his 10th starting position to finish second. Scaccio crossed the line third, followed by A.J. Bagozzi (Camillus, NY), and Peworchik. Sixth place went to Paul James (Albany, NY), followed by Duby Woodruff (Schenectady, NY), Matt Windhausen (Baldwinsville, NY), Bill Wayman (Port Crane, NY) and Bruce Brown (Clarks Summit PA). Heat races were won by Brush, James and O'Dell.
The Farrell Oil contingency product award was awarded to Brush, and Jeff Collins (Johnstown, NY) took home the Bruce Brown/ B&S Trucking cash bonus. CNYMS teams will travel to Albany-Saratoga Speedway (Malta, NY) on Friday, August 18th for the 2nd race of the 2000 Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies CVRA Mini Sprint Challenge Cup. The feature race will pay $650.00 to win, and $75.00 to take the green. Several contingency prizes will also be up from grabs.
