Texarkana & Champion Park up next for O'Reilly ASCS National Tour.
TULSA, Okla. (April 28, 2003) - The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers is gearing up for a pair of events this upcoming weekend, with the action getting under way Friday night at 67 Texarkana (AR) Speedway before moving on to Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA, on Saturday night.
The ASCS Gulf South Region regulars will join the National contenders for each night of competition as well, as both events are also Gulf South point races.
2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, leads the competitive National series into the weekend double. With one feature victory to his credit through the series' first three events in 2003, Chappell holds a slim eight point advantage over Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, and Darren Stewart of Bixby, OK, who are tied for second. Travis Rilat of Forney, TX, who edged Chappell at the line for the victory this past weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park, is just two more points back in fourth.
Shane Stewart is expected to make his 2003 ASCS debut during this weekend's racing action, with other top contenders expected to be on hand including 2002 ASCS National Rookie of the Year Cody Branchcomb, who is currently ranked fifth in points, Toby Brown, A.G. Rains, Rick Behr and Matt Clevenger.
Defending ASCS Gulf South Region champion Kelly Angelette leads the Gulf South forces into the weekend, with other top Gulf South contenders including Todd Johnson, Jimmy Brooks, Greg Rilat and Tina Creswell along with Rookie candidates Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Brandon Berryman, Cody Pearson and David Forbis.
Close to 30 Sprint Cars are expected for each night of racing action.
