COLUMBIA MOTORSPORTS PARK - LAKE CITY, Fla. - Using a daring three wide pass to grab the lead, Jim Childres sped to a popular victory in the 25-lap TBARA sprint car feature event Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park. Rookie Shane Miller paced the 19 car field from the pole position for the first six laps before second generation runner Bo Hartley took command in his familiar No. 3x. Quickly coming through traffic on the very fast half-mile oval was point leader Childers in his Jimmy and Wanda Riddle owned mount and Hartley soon had his hands full. Looking inside and out, Childres peeked outside at the end of the long back straight a couple of times and when it was time to make his move he ended up on the high side but never faltered, grabbing the top spot on lap 13 and never looked back. Hartley kept Childers in sight but settled for second money over Shane Butler, Wayne Reutimann and Dude Teate at the checkers. The second five consisted of Miller, Keith Butler, Shaun Farr, Ernie Teed and Kevin Cahill.
The 20 lap Florida modified run saw J.F. McClellan lead until his engine exploded on lap seven and second running Richard Ferry got caught up in the mess as well. John Crawford took command and sped to the win over Greg Nordstrom, Shannon Smith, John Mitchell and Ferry.
After three weeks of terrible misfortune, Jeff Prescott blasted back in grand style to lead every lap in winning the 20 lap street stock finale. Prescott's rebuilt Buick was not to be denied this night as he outran Randall Jackson, Trick Thomas, Ray Wheeler and points leader Charles Seroki.
Able to bounce back from problems in the tech area the previous week, Danny Coleman bested the ever improving pure stock field to win the 15 lap feature event. William Jerkins settled for second over lady drivers Trish Berry and Pam McRae while newcomer Robert Young completed the top five runners.
