Tatnell & Schatz Battle for Wins Down Under
Norman, OK--Nov. 12, 2006 -- After splitting victories during the World of Outlaws season finale weekend at The Dirt Track @ Las Vegas Speedway two weeks ago, series champion Donny Schatz, and four-time A-Feature winner Brooke Tatnell continued their battle for wins, as they both journeyed to Australia to take part in the opening rounds for the World Series Sprintcars.
Daryn Pittman, who finished fourth in World of Outlaws points, after winning five A-Feature events and two preliminary features this season also headed to "The Land Down Under." The trio took to the track three times this past week.
In the first round Wednesday night at Kalgoorlie International Speedway, Tatnell, started in the fifth spot and quickly worked his way to the front, passing Schatz for the lead.
Tatnell never looked back as he secured the win in the opener. Schatz finished the night in third after setting fast time, and sitting on the pole for the 30-lap event, while Daryn Pittman, who turned the third fastest lap in time trials, was ninth in the A-Feature.
The second and third rounds of WSS competition, took the trio of World of Outlaws stars to Perth Motorplex in Kwinana Beach for a two-day event.
In preliminary night action on Friday, Schatz again set fast time, and came home third in the 25-lapper. Tatnell started last in the field and worked his way up to a 12th-place finish without the help of a single caution, as the entire event was run green-to-checkers. Pittman was scheduled to start the B-Main hoping to race his way into the preliminary feature, but that event had to be cancelled due to an impending curfew that came into effect due to precarious weather conditions.
In the finale at Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, Tatnell got back on track, scoring the 30-lap A-Feature victory over Schatz in a thrilling non-stop race that saw the pair go wheel to wheel for a majority of the event. This came after they staged an exciting battle in a heat race earlier in the night that saw them trade the lead lap after lap.
Daryn Pittman, the 2002/2003 WSS Champion was fourth in the 30-lapper.
The fourth round of action will take place on Saturday November 18 at Speedway City.
Tatnell currently leads the standings, as he chases his sixth overall and second straight WSS crown in his native land.
