NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (July 29, 2004) - Lance Dewease edged Fred Rahmer in a battle of the titans during Thursday evening's 25 lap Sprint Car feature at Susquehanna Speedway Park. In other action, Pat Hires topped the Xtreme Enduro 20 lap event, while Bryan Brooks and Willie Brymesser were winners in the PennMar Vintage Stocks.
Jim Siegel took the early lead at the drop of the green in the Sprint Car feature event. Siegel paced the field through the first nine laps as Dewease, Rahmer and Greg Hodnett were working their way forward through the field. During a caution period on the tenth lap Siegel developed a flat right rear tire, and was forced to the pits. That handed the lead to Dewease, who had started ninth. Following the restart, Dewease had to deal with numerous challenges from Rahmer before claiming his fourth SSP win of the season. The $2500 victory was Dewease's tenth career triumph at the York County oval.
Rahmer had to settle for a close second place finish, and maintained his season point lead. Hodnett crossed third with Eric Stambaugh and Josh Wells in the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Brian Leppo, Chad Jumper, Scott Lutz, Scott Geesey, and Jeff Taylor. Heat wins went to Dewease, Dave Cordier and Rahmer.
Pat Hires led all 20 laps to score his first Xtreme Enduro win of the season. Matt Wampler finished second followed by Tom Slanker, who edged three other cars in a four wide battle for third. Karl Windish, Tom Johns, and Jerry Blauch were next in line. Heats went to Hires and Slanker, while Johns took the Pepsi Challenge Xtreme Stock Car Dash Race.
Bryan Brooks took the lead on the second of 12 laps to win the modified portion of the PennMar vintage Stock race. Willie Brymesser finished fifth overall, but claimed the win in the sportsman portion of that event. Brooks and Brymesser also won the heats.
