Dewease Gets Third of SSP Season Sunday Evening
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (June 20, 2004) - For the second week in a row Susquehanna Speedway Park was forced to use it's Sunday night raindate, and for the third time this season Lance Dewease raced to victory in the 25 lap Sprint Car feature on Father's Day. Karl Windish was awarded the Xtreme Enduro feature win after apparent winner Alan Miller failed post race tech. In the encore performance of the Great American School Bus Race, Jared Wintermyer claimed the win.
Austrialian visitor Peter Attard led the first two laps of the 25 lap Sprint Car event before sixth place starter Dewease took over the lead. From that point onward most eyes were glued to the battle for the remainder of the top five positions as Dewease pulled away in lapped traffic. Dewease's third win of the season was his ninth career SSP triumph. He collected $2500.
Cris Eash fended off Fred Rahmer to take second place, while point leader Rahmer had to settle for third. Greg Hodnett and Donnie Kreitz Jr. completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Jim siegel, Chad Layton, last week's winner Brian Leppo, Kenny Jacobs, and Attard. Heats for the 22 cars went to Attard, Hodnett, and Rahmer.
Alan Miller took the lead from Mike Goodwin on the 11th of 20 laps and appeared to take his first win of the season in the Xtreme Enduro feature event. However, when Miller's car failed post race inspection, veteran racer Karl Windish was awarded his first win of the season. Tom Johns moved to second followed by Greg Miller, Sam Rial, and Wayne Eurich in the top five. Heats went to Miller and Brian Sanders, while johns took the Pepsi Dash.
Last week, Jared Wintermyer finished third in the first edition of the Great American School Bus Race. This week he came from deep in the field to score the win. Scott Keller led the first half of the 15 lap event before Wintermyer took over the top spot. Despite a red flag for an overturned bus, Wintermyer went on to victory. Keller finished second followed by Chad Baker, last week's winner JR Rodriguez and Shawn Arndt. Micro Sprint racer Nathan Hauck who overtuned his bus onto its side and returned to action to finish tenth.
