NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (May 6, 2004) -- Lance Dewease. topped the 410 Sprint Car feature Thursday evening at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, while Bill Brown Sr. won the Northeast Classic Car event. It was the second win of the season for each. Tom Johns topped the Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars on his first night out.
Polesitter Josh Wells grabbed the early lead in the 25 lap Sprint Car feature, as a number of drivers began working forward from their handicapped starting spots. The first to reach the front was ninth place starter Jeff Shepard. Shepard slipped by Wells for the lead on the ninth lap, but yielded to tenth place starter Dewease on the 13th lap.
Seventh starter Fred Rahmer got by Shepard for second but was unable to challenge Dewease, who scored a 2.23 second victory over Rahmer. The win, Dewease's 225th career Sprint car triumph was worth $2500. Shepard finished third, with last week's winner Donnie Kreitz Jr. fourth and Mark Smith fifth.
Rounding out the top ten were Chris Knopp, Jim Siegel, Brian Leppo, Wells, and Eric Stambaugh. Heats went to Siegel, Greg Hodnett, and Rahmer.
For the second week in a row Bill Brown Sr. came from deep in the pack to win the 15 lap Northeast Classic Car feature. Brown started 13th and took the lead from polesitter Joe Snodgrass on the 11th lap. Snodgrass finished second followed by Fred Cullum, Joe Brown, and Jamie Lloyd. Heats went to Snodgrass and Kurt Welsh.
In the 20 lap Xtreme Enduro nightcap, Tom Johns made the most of his first night out by claiming the win. Johns took the lead on the second lap and never looked back. Larry Hughes Jr. finished second with opening night winner Mike Goodwin third. Matt Wampler finished fourth, and last week's winner Charlie Pensinger came from the last starting spot for fifth. Heats went to Hughes and Goodwin, with Alan Miller taking the Pepsi Dash.
This week's $100 winner in the Rock-It Pizza School Bus Challenge was Brian Leppo, whose timed lap was 43.52 seconds, besting the mark set a week earlier by Fred Rahmer. Josh Wells and Eric Stambaugh were Leppo's competitors this week.
The next race will be Thursday Night, May 13 with the 410 Sprint Cars, Xtreme Enduro Stock Cars and the PA 4 Cylinders. Gates openin the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m. Race fans can expect a fast paced 2 0x00bd hour program each and every night. Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 & older) $10.00; Teens (13-17) $6.00; Children (6-12) $2.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices have been reduced to $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders. A track license is $25.00 for the year.
