Timmy Montgomery dazzles fans at SFCR (twice).
FARMINGTON, Mo. -- (Sept. 1, 2002) In recent years, Timmy Montgomery of Fredericktown has established himself as one of the premiere sprint car drivers in the Midwest, well Sunday night at the St. Francois County Raceway he proved once again he's on the top of his game. Not only did he win the regular winged sprint car feature he also won the special 360-engine Winged Outlaw Warrior (WOW) event.
In the regular sprint car feature, Montgomery matched up with another top flight driver, Jerrod Hull of Sikeston and was able to hold him off for the victory. Jimmy Moughan finished in third place, Steve Short in fourth and Joey Montgomery in fifth place in the talent laidened field. They were followed by Tommy Worley Jr., Alex Shanks, Jason Keith, Bob Thoman and Jim Hurley.
Tim Montgomery won the first heat race with Ted Adams second and Thoman third. Moughan won the second heat with A.J. Bruns second and Shanks third. Short won heat three with Worley Jr. second and Keith third. Hull won the fourth heat with Hurley second and Brad Martin third. Casey Barnhouse won the "B" main with Henry Gustavus second and Jeremy Standridge third. Timmy Montgomery also won the dash with Hull second and Moughan third.
In the WOW feature, Timmy Montgomery (driving the #52 of Larry Dudley) once again picked up the checkered flag in the feature with Shawn King taking second, Joey Montgomery third, Daron Clayton fourth and Bobby Hawks fifth. They were followed by Mike Trent, Don Cooper, Henry Gustavus, Tracy Nichoes, and Tim Doogs.
Hawks won the first heat with Joey Montgomery second and Gustavus third. King won the second heat with Clayton second and Doogs third. Timmy Montgomery won the third heat with Trent second and Nichoes third.
In the Modified class, Robert Powers of Cambell, Mo. returned to the St. Francois County Raceway and picked up a big feature win. Mike Crader captured second place with Billy Smith third, Danny Resinger fourth and Gary Haynes fifth. They were followed by Kenny Kennedy, Brent Thompson, Chris Boyd, Lannie Blake and Tommy Worley Sr.
Powers won the first heat with Haynes second and Dan Zander third. Blake won the second heat with Resinger second and Smith third. Crader won heat three with Kennedy second and Worley Sr. third. Bob Waterhouse won the "B" main with Ryan Gegg second and Richie Standridge third.
In the 600cc Multi class, Daniel Adler was the winner of the feature with Dustin Barks second, Tommy Boyd third, Shawn Merritt fourth and Brad Loyett fifth. They were followed by Kevin Bess, Joey Boyd, Kent Buckley, Junior Ferguson and Jeremy Boyer.
Tommy Boyd won the first heat race with Bess second and Joey Boyd third. Adler won the second heat with Ferguson second and Merritt third. Barks won the third heat with Jimmy Bridgeman second and Paul Thompson third.
Racing action at the St. Francois County Raceway will continue Saturday night when the MARA Midgets once again pay a visit to the raceway. They will be joined by the winged sprints, hobby stocks and multis. The modified class will not be racing at SFCR this weekend only.
