Worley Jr. edges Montgomery to increase points lead at SFCR/
FARMINGTON, Mo. -- (July 27, 2002) Tommy Worley Jr. of Bismarck and Timmy Montgomery of Fredericktown are on top of the sprint car point standings at the St. Francois County Raceway and Saturday night they showed the fans why. The two drivers put on a tremendous display and nearly lapped the entire field during the 25-lap feature event. The problem for Montgomery was Worley simply could not be caught on this night and the points leader went on to pick up the checkered flag. Montgomery finished second with Casey Barnhouse (the only other car on the lead lap) finished third, Jeremy Standridge fourth and Bob Thoman fifth. They were followed by Ron Standridge, Greg Burns, Rod Crabdree, Larry Dudley and Jason Hunt.
Worley won the first heat race with Dudley second and Burns third. Ted Adams won the second heat with Ron Standridge second and Hunt third. Montgomery won the third heat with Barnhouse second and Jay Landolt third. Thoman won the "B" main with Eddie Lynch second and Keith Burch third.
In the Modified class, Mike Crader picked up a big win in the feature as he drove his #24 to victory lane for the first time this season at SFCR. Kenny Kenny finished in second place with Billy Smith third, Timmy Hill fourth and Chris Boyd fifth. They were followed by Kasey Nations, Matt Zimmerly, Dan Zander, Jimmy Brayton Sr. and Kevin Hulsey.
Larry Hull won the first heat race with Kennedy second and Tommy Worley Sr. third. Gary Haynes won the second heat with Hill second and Pete Koenig third. Crader won the third heat with Nations second and Bob Waterhouse third.
In the Hobby Stock class, former track champion Kenny "the Hustler" Harris of Desloge sailed to his first feature win of the season. Karl Francis finished a distant second with Doug Savage third, Matt Eaton fourth and Chuck Adams fifth. They were followed by Rocky Stevens, Mike Francis, Donnie Mosier, Kasey Nations and Ed DeMill.
Eaton won the first heat race with Jeremy Greenwalt second and Adams third. Randy Forster won the second heat with Harris second and Karl Francis third.
In the 600cc Multi class, Junior Ferguson of Farmington also picked up his first feature win of the season at SFCR by holding off the charge of Lance McKinney. Shawn Merritt finished third with Brad Loyet fourth and Tyler Thompson fifth. They were followed by Dustin Barks, Tommy Boyd, Adam Jones, Joey Boyd and Kent Buckley.
Ferguson won the first heat with Loyet second and Joey Boyd third. Merritt won the second heat with Barks second and Thompson third. Tommy Boyd won the third heat with Jones second and McKinney third. Ray Statler won the "B" main with Jeremy Boyer second and Conner Thompson third. Due to the St. Francois County Fair this week there is no racing at the St. Francois County Raceway. Action will resume with all four classes on Saturday, Aug. 10th.
