Tim Montgomery wins third feature of season at SFCR.
FARMINGTON, Mo. -- (May 24, 2002) For the third time this season Timmy Montgomery of Fredericktown picked up the checkered flag in the sprint car feature at the St. Francois County Raceway after holding off the charge of Tommy Worley Jr. for the victory.
Joey Montgomery finished third in the 25-lap feature with Alex Shanks fourth and Travis Mize fifth. They were followed by Daron Clayton, Casey Barnhouse, Bob Thoman, Steve Short and Timmy Moss. Tim Montgomery won the first heat race with Thoman second and Shanks third. Worley Jr. won the second heat with Barnhouse second and Mize third. Joey Montgomery won the third heat with Short second and Josh Revelle third. Tim Montgomery also won the trophy dash (part of only his second triple crown ever) with Barnhouse second and Worley Jr. third. Clayton won the "B" main with Lowe Cannell second.
In the Modified class, Jeff LeBaube continued his outstanding work as of late with another feature win. This time he was able to outduel Tim Hill for the win with Danny Resinger third, Mike Crader fourth and Keith Ruff fifth. They were followed by Billy Smith, Kenny Kennedy, Matt Zimmerly, Jim Bieshir, and Tommy Worley Sr. Resinger won the first heat race with Ruff second and Smith third. LeBaube won the second heat with Kennedy second and Zimmerly third. Hill won the third heat with Bieshir second and Crader third.
In the Hobby Stock class, Randy Forster had an excellent night by winning his first feature of the season along with his heat race. In the feature it was a battle to the wire with Chuck Adams and Kenny Harris, but Forster pulled off the win with Adams taking second and Harris third, Jeremy Greenwalt was fourth with Tim Phares fifth. They were followed by Billy Mayberry, Matt Eaton, Chris Boyd, Mark Howell and Karl Francis. Francis won the first heat with Harris second and Greenwalt third. Forster won the second heat with Boyd second and Adams third.
In the 600cc Multi class, Lance McKinney pulled out the victory in the feature with Dustin Barks second, Junior Ferguson third, Tony Roney fourth and Curt Henderson fifth. They were followed by Kent Buckley, Derek O'Dell, Daniel Adler, Eric Giessing and Tommy Boyd. Ferguson won the first heat with McKinney second and Barks third. O'Dell won the second heat with Adler second and David Frohmann third. Roney won the third heat with Matt Dotson second and Buckley third.
The Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW) made their first of two appearances at the track Friday night, but the winner had a very familiar look - Joey Montgomery driving his #21 car with the 360-engine.
Racing action continues at SFCR this weekend with a special $2,000 to win sprint feature and a double-points night for all classes. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing start at 7:30. For more information phone (573) 756-1734.
