Long Wins ASCS Sprints on Dirt North vs. South Shootout at Eldora!

ROSSBURG, Ohio (June 14, 2008) -- Darren Long kicked off the North/South Shootout between the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz and the National Racing Alliance with a victory at the legendary Eldora Speedway. Long passed early leader Ben Rutan and held on through several restarts for his fifth feature win during his 2008 campaign.J Former ASCS Sprints on Dirt champion Sean Robinson and Ben Rutan started on the front row for the 20-lap feature event. Rutan took the lead while Long immediately started challenging for the lead. Rutan and Long traded slide jobs before Long took the top position.

Two time ASCS Sprints on Dirt champion Dustin Daggett moved swiftly through the pack from his 9th starting spot taking over fourth position on lap 9. With the leaders out front Daggett caught a break when Dain Naida and Joe Bares spun between turns one and two. Brett Mann had to take evasive action and took a light rollover to bring out the red flag. Mann was uninjured, but was unable to restart while Naida and Bares joined the tail of the field.

Long had young Jared Horstman on his back bumper for the restart, but was able to open up a three car length advantage. Daggett started to challenge Rutan for the third spot when the caution came out for 2007 ASCS Sprints on Dirt rookie of the year Ryan Ruhl riding the wall between turns three and four. Ruhl had to retire from the event.

After the restart Long pulled away while Rutan and Daggett exchanged slide jobs. The battling allowed fifth place Butch Schroeder to move up and pass both Rutan and Daggett to move up to third positions. With laps winding down though it was all Long out front over Horstman, Schroeder, Daggett, and (1H).
