One More Weekend Double for ASCS Sprints on Dirt

TULSA, Okla. (August 29, 2006) -- The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz is set for its final points-paying weekend double of the 2006 season with a pair of events in Michigan this weekend.

Friday night, the series makes its second and final stop of the season at Winston Motor Speedway in Rothbury, MI, before moving on to Crystal Motor Speedway in Crystal, MI, on Saturday night.

Only the series championship season finale at Hartford Speedway Park on September 9 remains after this weekend, followed by the non-points paying Canadian Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway on September 15-16.

With four series triumph to his credit, Manitou Beach, MI, racer Ken Mackey is just three nights away from his first ASCS Sprints on Dirt championship, entering this weekend's double with a 93-point cushion over Kalkaska, MI, shoe Gary Fast.

Fast leads a hotly-contested battle for runner-up honors, just 13 markers ahead of Gregg Dalman (Lyons, MI), with former series champion Dain Naida of Bellville, MI, just eight more points back in fourth.

Kyle Patrick, the Tilbury, ONT, tornado, rounds out the current top five, with the balance of the current top ten including Kevin Atkins (Warsaw, IN), Ryan Grubaugh (St. Johns, MI), Joe Bares (Traverse City, MI), Louie Carufel (Port Huron, MI) and Davey Brown (Eaton Rapids, MI).

Other top contenders expected for the weekend include two-time series champion Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI) and defending series champion Tim Norman (Warsaw, IN) along with Mike Galajda, Bill Johnson, Brett Mann and Steve Irwin.

Naida was victorious in the series June 9 stop at Winston Motor Speedway, with Mike Brecht Irwin splitting wins at Crystal Motor Speedway in the series season opener on May 6 and a July 15 stop.

With 18 ASCS Sprints on Dirt feature events in the books for 2006, eleven different drivers have posted at least one feature triumph.

Friday's card at Winston Motor Speedway gets under way at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday's action at Crystal Motor Speedway firing off at 7:30 p.m. as well.

The 2006 Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz slate consists of approximately 30 nights of racing at fourteen different tracks throughout Michigan, Ohio and Canada.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
