IRWIN WINS SECOND STRAIGHT ASCS SOD FEATURE AT MERRITT

MERRITT, Mich. (August 11, 2007) -- Steve Irwin won his second straight Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature event at Merritt Speedway on Saturday. Irwin had a race long battle with Ryan Grubaugh and pulled away after Grubaugh got sideways and took a trip through the infield."This place, I've been coming here my whole career and couldn't win (at Merritt), now I nearly win every race they have here. We had to be real conservative coming off the pole and not get crazy with the setup. We were a bit loose, and that's what we had.JWe got through lapped traffic a bit better."Irwin and Grubaugh started on the front row for the 25-lap feature event. The duo immediately pulled away from the rest of the field and battled for the lead. On lap three, Tank Brackenberry brought out the caution flag after spinning in turn four and getting hung up on a marker tire.

During the caution Dustin Daggett went to the pit area with a flat tire while running in the top five. The Mott Motorsports team was able to get the tire changed and Daggett rejoined the tail of the field.

Irwin and Grubaugh continued to battle after the restart for the lead.JFor the most part Irwin ran the bottom and Grubaugh raced the top cutting through slower traffic. With three laps to go Grubaugh had another run on Irwin and ended up getting over his right rear tire, turned into the infield, but managed to continue with only losing two positions.JGrubaugh managed to get back up to second during the last two laps, but Irwin cruised to the victory. Grubaugh, Joe Bares, Tim Norman, and Daggett from the back of the field rounded out the top five.Grubaugh, Bares, and Norman won the heat race events for the 21 car field.
