ASCS Sprints on Dirt Lights Out at I-96, Feature Rescheduled August 18th
LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (July 7, 2006) - The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz ended up lights out at I-96 Speedway literally after problems with the track lighting system forced the feature event to be postponed until August 18th during the Full Throttle Nationals ASCS National Sprint Car Series weekend.
The "B" Main had just finished when the lights on the backstretch went dark. Track officials worked feverishly to get the problem repaired and to provide temporary lighting, but after conferring with drivers and track officials, ASCS SOD officials determined that the lighting was not adequately repaired to run sprint cars on the high-speed half-mile oval.
During the down time, ASCS SOD drivers entertained the crowd with interviews and by signing autographs. Even though it was disappointing to the large crowd on hand, I-96 fans will now have a chance to see two sprint car features on August 18, with the O'Reilly ASCoT National feature and the makeup SOD feature during the same night.
Before the outage, the heat race events were won by Ben Rutan, Kevin Atkins and Kyle Patrick. Gary Fast won the "B" Feature. Atkins and 2005 Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt point champion Tim Norman will be on the front row for the feature event.
The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt series returns to action on Saturday at Owendale Speedway in Owendale, MI, for the first of two appearances up in the "thumb" area of Michigan. For more information, visit the series official website at www.ascsracing.com.
