ASCS Sprints on Dirt Championship Night Saturday at Hartford
TULSA, Okla. (September 6, 2006) -- Manitou Beach, Michigan's Ken Mackey is just one green flag away from collecting the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz 2006 championship, and he can do that in Saturday night's series championship finale at Hartford Speedway Park in Hartford, MI.
Holding an 83-point advantage on the strength of a series-best four wins this season, Mackey can clinch the title by simply taking an official green flag during Saturday night's card to earn an assured 75 show-up points.
But Mackey, the "King of Michigan" Hartford Speedway Park winner on June 30, will be gunning for more than show-up points as he view for a fifth win in the finale as Gary Fast tries to hold off Gregg Dalman for second in the points chase.
Kalkaska, MI, shoe Fast, who became the series twelfth different winner of the year with his first career win this past Friday, holds an eleven-point edge in the runner-up battle over Lyons, MI, racer Dalman entering Saturday's finale. Dalman's single win this season came at Butler Motor Speedway on June 23.
Former series champion Dain Naida of Belleville, MI, enters the finale ranked fourth, just 18 points ahead of Tilbury, ONT, shoe Kyle Patrick. The balance of the current top ten includes Kevin Atkins (Warsaw, IN), Ryan Grubaugh (St. Johns, MI), Joe Bares (Traverse City, MI), Louie Carufel (Port Huron, MI) and Davey Brown (Eaton Rapids, MI).
Also expected for the finale are two-time series champion Dustin Daggett, who has three ASCS Sprints on Dirt feature wins this season, and defending series champion Tim Norman.
Saturday's action gets under way at 8:00 p.m.
The high-banked, 0x00bd-mile Hartford Speedway Park clay oval is located in Hartford, MI, off I-96 Exit 46, then 1.3 miles north on Center Street past the traffic light, then four blocks west on Prospect Street, then north. For more information, contact the track at 269-621-4482.
