FIFE LAKE, Mich. (July 25, 2008) -- Ben Rutan from Sunset Center, Michigan won Friday night's Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature event at Cherry Speedway. Rutan started on the pole position and led every lap, but the victory did not come easy as contact with a lapped car before halfway knocked off his right rear shock absorber.

Even with the damaged mount Rutan held on through several restarts and a torrid battle with Dain Naida for the victory in the Mike Yoader Racing, Dean Poured Walls, Millenium Concrete, Dexeter Parts Peddler, Competition Tire West sponsored car.

"I'm not sure how I didn't end up upside down," said Rutan after the feature. "We had a great battle with Dain (Naida). He's one of the guys you can race clean with side by side. It was a lot of fun being able to race like that The broken shock didn't effect the car as much as I thought it would once I figured out how to run it."

Rutan and young Jake Stebner, in his next to last sprint car race before moving out of state to go to college, started on the front row of the 20-lap feature. Rutan drove into the lead at the start with Stebener and Mann in tow.

Naida, who started fifth, immediately moved around Mann, for third and shortly after passed Stebner for the second spot and set out after Rutan.

Rutan encountered lapped traffic early on. On lap seven he came up on Andy Teunessen and the duo made contact going into turn one. Rutan bounced in the air several times, but did not turn over and kept going while Teunessen retired pitside. The caution appeared for debris on the track from Teunessen's car and Rutan assumed the top spot.

During the caution Rutan felt out what was broken on his car and elected to stay on the speedway. Rutan opened up some breathing room during the restart, but quickly encountered lapped traffic. Naida used this to his advantage and dove to the inside of Rutan in turns one and two. Rutan pulled away from Naida down the backstretch, but Naida pulled along side in turns three and four just as the caution flag appeared for a spin by Stebner in turn two.

Rutan assumed the lead and pulled away over the last five laps to take his second win of the 2008 season over Naida,
