ASCS Sprints on Dirt Battle Shifts to Cherry and Merritt
TULSA, Okla. (July 23, 2007) -- The championship points battle for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz simply can't get any closer, as Brett Mann and Tim Norman are deadlocked atop the point charts entering this weekend's pair of events.
On Friday night, the ASCS Sprints on Dirt invade Cherry Speedway in Fife Lake, MI, for the second and final time this season. Then on Saturday night, it's on to Merritt Speedway in Merritt, MI, for the second of three scheduled events.
Dustin Daggett, winner of seven of ten ASCS Sprints on Dirt events thus far in 2007, swept the series previous Cherry-Merritt weekend on June 8 and 9.
The June 9 event at Merritt Speedway proved costly for Tim Norman, as he suffered a "DNF" which allowed Mann to open up a 22-point lead in the title chase.
But Norman has chipped away at Mann's advantage over the past four events, climbing back into a tie for the lead following this past Saturday night's event at Crystal Motor Speedway.
While Mann of Goshen, IN, and Norman of Warsaw, IN, are tied for the lead with 1,400 points apiece, Ben Rutan of Jerome, MI, is 44 points off the lead pace in third.
Kalkaska, Michigan's Gary Fast, a July 13 winner at I-96 Speedway, enters the weekend ranked fourth, with Bill Johnson of Linden, MI, rounding out the current top five.
The balance of the current top ten includes rookie contender Ryan Ruhl (Angola, IN), Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI), Joe Bares (Traverse City, MI), 17-year-old rookie Jake Stebner (Elmira, MI) and past series champion Dain Naida (Belleville, MI).
Friday's racing action at Cherry Speedway goes green at 7:15 p.m., with Saturday's action at Merritt Speedway firing off at 7:30 p.m.
