The O'Reilly Sprint Bandits COMP Cams Challenge!
TULSA, Okla. (March 10, 2004) -- Yet another interesting facet to keep track of as the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits series progresses through its inaugural season in 2004 will be the COMP Cams Challenge, a cumulative season-long tally of passing points for each driver.
Drivers will earn points towards the season-ending COMP Cams Challenge award as they battle for feature starting berths at each O'Reilly Sprint Bandits event through the sport's most challenging and exciting format.
The O'Reilly Sprint Bandits format consists of the use of passing points in heat races, which are initially lined up according to the pre-race draw. After passing points have been calculated upon the completion of heat races, a like number of qualifying races will be contested with lineups completely inverted based upon heat race passing points. The passing points system will be utilized in qualifying races as well, with feature lineups determined by total points from both heat races and qualifying races.
Every position gained in every heat race and qualifying race over the course of the season will also lead one step closer to the COMP Cams Challenge Award, worth $1,000 at the season-ending awards banquet to be held at Harrah's North Kansas City Casino & Hotel on November 6.
In addition to sponsoring the COMP Cams Challenge, COMP Cams will award $100 at each O'Reilly Sprint Bandits main event during 2004 to the top finisher displaying the appropriate COMP Cams decals. An additional $50 will be awarded to the next two top finishing member drivers displaying COMP Cams Valve Springs and COMP Cams Rocker Arm decals as well.
Based in Memphis, TN, COMP Cams has provided the highest performance camshafts and valve train products for racing and street engines since 1977. From the initial concept of producing the highest performance racing and street cams, COMP Cams has evolved into the industry leader in performance cam and valve train technology.
The O'Reilly Sprint Bandits series has been created in an effort to revitalize 410-ci Sprint Car racing, in part by utilizing cost-cutting rules including the use of a series head, spec right rear tire and eliminating the wicker bill on wings. These rules will also combine to unhook the cars, thereby making the driver a greater part of the equation, resulting in more competitive Sprint Car racing.
The O'Reilly Sprint Bandits inaugural season is expected to consist of approximately 20-25 events.
