Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (February 11, 2004) -- Set to host the new Sprint Bandits series on Sunday night May 30, Butler County Speedway in Rising City, NE, is the latest addition to the 2004 Sprint Bandits schedule.
The Sprint Bandits event at the high-banked one-third mile Butler County Speedway clay oval will wrap up Memorial Day weekend action for the Sprint Bandits, which also includes a Saturday night stop at Knoxville Raceway.
The Butler County stop also wraps up a busy month of May for the Sprint Bandits, which kicks off on May 7 with a wingless challenge, non-points event versus USAC at Memphis Motorsports Park. A midweek stop on Wednesday night May 12, at Auto Tire & Parts Race Park in Benton, MO, leads into a two-night double at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway on May 14-15. Tulsa Speedway hosts the Sprint Bandits on May 22, before Knoxville and Rising City bring the action-filled month of May to a conclusion.
The Sprint Bandits series is set to kick off its inaugural season at Devil's Bowl Speedway on March 19-20 with the 31st Annual Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals, before moving on to Tunica's Delta Bowl Speedway on March 27.
Founded by Emmett Hahn, the Sprint Bandits series has been created in an effort to revitalize 410-ci Sprint Car racing, in part by utilizing cost-cutting rules including the use of a series head, spec right rear tire and eliminating the wicker bill on wings. These rules will also combine to unhook the cars, thereby making the driver a greater part of the equation, resulting in more competitive Sprint Car racing.
The Sprint Bandits series has also unveiled an innovative new racing format, including the use of passing points in both Heat Races and Qualifying Races to determine feature lineups, which is designed to deliver more competitive racing for the benefit of fans and drivers alike.
The Sprint Bandits schedule currently consists of 14 confirmed dates at ten different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The full Sprint Bandits schedule for 2004 will consist of 20-25 races.
