ASCS Southwest Region Takes to Manzanita Half-Mile on Saturday!
TULSA, Okla. (August 26, 2008) -- Ben Gregg has proven to be a dominant force in the inaugural season of American Sprint Car Series Southwest Region competition, reaching victory lane in six of eight winged Sprint Car feature events.
The Phoenix racer faces another challenge this weekend, as the ASCS Southwest Region takes to Manzanita Speedway's 0x00bd-mile clay oval for the first time this Saturday night.
With four triumphs at Tucson's USA Race Park and one at Show Low's Thunder Speedway, Gregg posted his first career feature win at Manzanita two weeks ago by racing to victory lane in the series event on the 1/3-mile.
This Saturday night, Gregg will try to conquer the 0x00bd-mile for the first time in his career.
The current series points leader will face a sturdy field of challengers though, including El Paso's Shawn Sander, who will try to cut into Gregg's 66-point lead.
Sander enters the event ranked second, just four markers ahead of Las Cruces, NM, shoe Rick Ziehl, who has a pair of past wins atop the half-mile Manzanita clay on his resume.
Hometown racer Steve Martin is another 16 points back in fourth, with 18-year-old Cody Cambensy of Tucson just six points behind Martin.
The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Southwest Region points includes Ronnie Clark (Tucson), Mike Rux, Jr. (Mesa), Joshua Williams (Glendale), Jessica Van Dyke (Tucson) and John Gaston (Peoria).
Saturday's ASCS Southwest Region action at Manzanita Speedway is set to go green at 7:30 p.m.
Manzanita Speedway is located in Phoenix, AZ, off I-10 Exit 141, then four miles south on 35th Avenue to West Broadway. For more information, contact the track at 602-276-7575.
