ASCS Southern Tour Takes on Asphalt in 2007

TULSA, Okla. (October 4, 2006) -- Competitors with the Heintz Performance American Sprint Car Series Southern Tour will get to experience some new venues in 2007, as the series will schedule approximately six to eight asphalt events next year.

The asphalt events, added to broaden the series' fan base and entice new teams to the series, will be in addition to a full slate of dirt track events. The 2006 slate for the ASCS Southern Tour has consisted of 13 events, all on dirt tracks, with the two-night World Short Track Championships at Lowe's Motor Speedway on November 3-4 remaining.

Rules will be in place that will allow current and prospective car owners to run the same cars on both dirt and pavement, with the minimum of cost and time to change from one surface to the other.

The series already has two scheduled dates at the 4/10-mile Dillon Motor Speedway asphalt oval on June 9, 2007, and October 29, 2007, in Dillon, SC. Dillon Motor Speedway is currently under construction at the site of the former Dillon Raceway and is expected to open in during Spring of 2007.

Several other asphalt tracks in North Carolina have expressed an interest in hosting the Heintz Performance ASCS Southern Tour in 2007.

The Heintz Performance ASCS Southern Tour 2006 slate consists of 15 nights of racing at thirteen different tracks throughout the southeastern portion of the United States.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
