ASCS Southern Tour Title on the Line This Weekend

TULSA, Okla. (October 30, 2006) -- Nine different American Sprint Car Series champions have already been determined for the 2006 season. The tenth and final one will be crowned this coming weekend, as the Heintz Performance ASCS Southern Tour wraps up the 2006 campaign with the World Short Track Championship at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, NC.

The two-night affair atop the semi-banked, 4/10-mile clay oval will consist of heat races on Friday night and feature events on Saturday night.

The title fight is a three-way affair between North Carolinians Cody Adams, Johnny Bridges and Lance Moss. Adams, hailing from Mooresville, holds a slim seven-point lead over Cherryville's Bridges, with Moss, also of Cherryville, just 33 more points back in third.

The battle for fourth is a close one as well, with just six points separating Mooresville racers Brian Smith and Jeff Young and Pfafftown's Butch Pendergrass. Pendergrass is expected to miss the finale, with another driver already entered in his mount.

Others entering the season finale in the top ten include Kris Brooks, Eddie Hamilton, Tim Perry and Jimmy Burns.

The ASCS Southern Tour regulars will face an abundance of tough competitors, including former ASCS Patriot champion Bryan Howland, Ohio's Kent Wolters, Mississippi's Shane Morgan, New Jersey's Scott McClaren and Davey Sammons, New York's Geoff Quackenbush and Pennsylvania's Josh Weller among others.

On Friday, pit gates open at 2:00 p.m., with spectator gates opening at 5:00 p.m. The driver's meeting takes place at 5:15 p.m. with hot laps at 6:00 p.m. The ASCS Southern Tour heat races will begin at approximately 7:40 p.m.

Gates open at the same times on Saturday followed by the driver's meeting at 5:15 p.m., with the ASCS Southern Tour "B" Main(s) at approximately 7:20 p.m. The 25-lap ASCS Southern Tour "A" Feature event is slated for approximately 9:35 p.m.

The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway is located in Concord, NC, northeast of Charlotte on I-85 to Exit 49 (Speedway Blvd.), then south. For more information, contact the track at 704-455-3200 or 1-800-455-FANS.
