ASCS Southern Tour Gears Up for Weekend Double

TULSA, Okla. (September 12, 2006) -- Coming off his second Heintz Performance American Sprint Car Series Southern Tour feature win of the season this past weekend, Coby Adams of Mooresville, NC, will try to hold on to a slim point lead as the series takes to a pair of new stops this weekend.

On Friday night, the stars of the ASCS Southern Tour take to the high-banked, 3/8-mile Sugar Creek Raceway clay oval in Blue Ridge, GA, for the first time. Then on Saturday night, the series crosses the state line for it's first visit to the high-banked, 3/8-mile Tri-County Race Track clay oval in Brasstown, NC.

While Adams scored his second win of the season on Saturday night, his point lead over Cherryville, NC, shoe Johnny Bridges only increased slightly. Bridges, with two wins to his credit as well this year, finished second to Adams this past weekend to stay within nine points of the leader.

Just another 15 points back in third is Lance Moss, also of Cherryville, NC. Still in strong title contention, Moss will try to bounce back from a wild crash at the conclusion of the past weekend's feature event.

Sixty points behind Moss in fourth is Butch Pendergrass of Pfafftown, NC, with Jeff Young of Mooresville, NC, rounding out the current top five. The balance of the current top ten entering the weekend includes Brian Smith (Mooresville, NC), Kris Brooks (Charlotte, NC), Jimmy Burns (Salisbury, NC), Doug Gold (Concord, NC) and Eddie Hamilton (Lexington, NC).

Friday's action at Sugar Creek Raceway goes green at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday's card at Tri-County Race Track firing off at 7:30 p.m. Mufflers are required for both racetracks.

Sugar Creek Raceway is located in Blue Ridge, GA, 0.1 miles south of US 76 on SR 5, then 1.8 miles west on Scenic Drive, then 2.2 miles south on Sugar Creek Road, then west. For more information, contact the track at 706-632-9083 or 770-713-7447.
