Jason Johnson retains point lead for Southern Iowa Sprintweek title.

^Knoxville, Iowa (August 8, 2002) - A disappointing sixteenth place finish in last night's Mopar Parts Knoxville Nationals preliminary night feature has retained the point lead for Jason Johnson for the inaugural "Mr. Sprint Car" title after the first six events of the 9-event Southern Iowa SprintWeek. Johnson, originally of Eunice, Louisiana, and now living in Greenville, Texas, has 176 points. Travis Rilat of Texas City, Texas, winner of Tuesday's $30,000-to-win SCRA/NWWC Ultimate Challenge at Oskaloosa has 138 points, and he is scheduled to compete in tonight's preliminary night action at the Knoxville Raceway. Josh Higday, winner of Sunday night's Brodix Tournament of Champions, is in third place with 126 points, while NASCAR Busch Series driver Kasey Kahne is in fourth with 125 points. Rounding out the 'top five' is Jason Sides with 123 points.

The Southern Iowa SprintWeek champion will claim the "Mr. Sprint Car" title and pocket $1,500 in bonus money. Through last night's action, a total of 181 drivers have earned points in 360-cubic-inch, 410 c.i., and/or non-winged sprint car racing.

The 'top ten' in the current "Mr. Sprint Car" point standings: Jason Johnson 176, Travis Rilat 138, Josh Higday 126, Kasey Kahne 125, Jason Sides 123, Michael Dupuy 115, Mike Reinke 102, Clint Garner 96, Lance Dewease 95, Daryn Pittman 93.
