July 22, 2003
Bobby Thompson won the Non-Wing 305 A-main over Curtis Thorson and Bob Lamb. It was Thompson's fifth win of the year and he extended his point lead over Kevin Tanner. There were 9 of the 305s on hand and Thorson won the heat race.
The 305s will also be on the card with the WDRL Late Models next Thursday night, July 31st. The Late Models will run twin $4,000 to win features in the Duel in the Dirt.
Jockos Sprint Parts gave $50 gift certificates to several of the heat winners and feature winners. Thanks to Doug Brown for his support.
Adam West traveled all the way to Rochester, Indiana to drop off a 410 motor on Tuesday before getting the call to drive Larry Week's 360 on Tuesday night. West spun out near the midpoint of the A-main.
Eric Mason and Michael Jones each had engine problems but Mason was unsure if he had lost his powerplant immediately following the event. Mason, who is the regular track announcer at Southern Iowa Speedway, had been running a strong third when he pulled off. Jones was sure that his motor was blown.
Jeff Mitrisin made a rare start in a 360 with a motor from Doug Brown at Jockos. It was the same engine that Dennis Moore Jr. won the 360 Nationals with at Knoxville.
Ryan Jamison was thrilled to win the event and was very happy to get his third win of the season. His first two came at the 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa.
John VanDenBerg continued his hot streak by grabbing his third straight top five finish in a sprint car. His third at Oskaloosa coupled with a third at Knoxville last Saturday and a top five against the 410s at West Liberty gave VanDenBerg his best week ever in a sprint car.
Clint Garner scratched from the entire event after turning just a few slow laps in hot laps. Tyler Houseman had a large fire down the backchute in the third heat and was finished for the evening. Mike Houseman Jr. was scheduled to make his first start in his father's Y5 sprint but he scratched following hot laps.
