I-30 Hosts ASCS Sooner vs. Mid-South Shootout this Saturday
TULSA, Okla. (May 30, 2006) -- There will be a virtual shootout at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway this Saturday night, as the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region takes on the American Sprint Car Series Mid-South Region atop the high-banked, 0x00bc-mile clay oval.
It marks the first time the ASCS Sooner and Mid-South Regions have faced off and is the first for either Region to appear at I-30 Speedway.
Both Regions feature competitive points races and are expected to bring a stout field of cars to take on I-30 Speedway's regular contingent of competitors.
In ASCS Sooner Region action, Sean McClelland of Collinsville, OK, has opened up a 44-point lead over Texas racers Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Kevin Ramey, who are tied for second. McClelland and Hafertepe monopolized Sooner Region victory lane thus far in 2006, accounting for all five feature wins.
While the ASCS Mid-South Region has featured four different winners in as many events in its first season of action, it is Bixby, OK, hotshoe Darren Stewart holding a meager ten-point lead over Byhalia, MS, racer Dale Howard, with Hooks, TX, ace Gary Wright just eight more points back in third.
The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Sooner Region points includes Brian McClelland (Tulsa, OK), J.P. Bailey (Fort Worth, TX), Cody Wampler (Walters, OK), Trey Robb (Newcastle, OK), Jimmy Taylor (Oklahoma City, OK), Johnny Miller (Burleson, TX) and Dex Eaton (Owasso, OK).
Also in the top ten in ASCS Mid-South Region points are Josh Lofton (Stamps, AR), Michael Herrington (Gonzales, LA), Stephen Chevallier (Downsville, LA), Bryce Vowan (Forrest City, AR), Robert Casada (Petal, MS), Jan Howard (Byhalia, MS) and Cody Gardner (Little Rock, AR).
Tim Crawley and Pete Butler will lead a strong contingent of I-30 Speedway regular competitors that also includes Justin Sturch, Joe Young, Richard Herring and Rick Pringle among others.
The 2006 American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region slate consists of 16 events at nine different tracks throughout Oklahoma, northern Texas and Arkansas.
The inaugural season for the ASCS Mid-South Region is composed of ten events at eight different tracks throughout Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Louisiana.
Saturday's action is slated to get under way at 7:30 p.m.
